What do you love, what can you not live without?
Last year, after a lifetime of sourcing my kitchen cutlery from CVS and working myself into a ball of sweaty desperation every time I chopped a potato, I went ahead and spent a decent little sum of money on a stainless steel, all-purpose chef's knife from Japan. I didn't know a knife could give me joy. I show it off to my friends. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING THING CUT THIS CARROT, I tell them. They hum their approval. I look forward to using this knife, which means I make more plans to cook at home, which means I eat out less, which has improved my economic and physical situation in the ways you'd expect. And all because I finally bought a decent knife, which I had the means to purchase many years before. I've become a good knife proselytizer. Get a better knife, I tell my family, my friends, people on the bus. You won't regret it.
