What's the best advice you've ever received?
The best piece of advice I ever got was when I was considering moving back to Chicago. My then-boyfriend, now-husband was here doing Blue Man Group, and I was still in NYC. (where we met) We had talked about my moving, but I was wary. I called my dear friend, Harry, an actor with whom I had done a show, and I talked about how nervous I was to move to Chicago. I was a fairly established actor in nyc. Wouldn’t i be giving all of that up by moving and starting over?
Harry’s response was epic. He said, “Steven, do you know what the end result of choosing your acting career over love is?” Before I could answer, he continued, “You’ll be eighty years old, eating cheese of a knife in a dorm room in Syracuse, NY, because you were lucky enough to get a part in Absurd Person Singular. Move to Chicago. They have theater there. You’ll be fine.”
