Who is your favorite queer icon?
I love Ellen DeGeneres. In 1997 Ellen came out on national television... exactly two months before I married a man (even though I knew I was gay). I watched Ellen go through coming out, having her television show canceled, etc... Ups and Downs. Her courage gave me courage. It took me close to 8 years... but I finally owned who I am and came out of the closet. I was terrified of not being "normal" and watching Ellen on television helped... as corny as it sounds. She made being a lesbian normal for me. She made coming out possible for me. Thanks Ellen...
