You're Being Ridiculous is super excited to be back at Uncommon Ground, Edgewater with a fun summer show for you! AND ... we're delighted to welcome Jennifer Peepas to YBR to share a story with us ... learn a little about Jennifer here and get your tickets!
Jennifer Peepas studied film directing at Columbia College Chicago and international relations at Georgetown, which has equipped her to make weird feminist films with sad endings and pay way too much attention to the news while she gnaws her fingernails down to bloody stumps. Since 2006, she's taught over one thousand people to make movies. She writes the online advice site CaptainAwkward.com and is working on a book of essays. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? From one of my professors in film school, Chris Swider, it's probably a tie between these three:
1) If you're directing something and the cinematographer wants to shoot it one way and you want to shoot another way it's probably faster to shoot it both ways than to have the argument. The cinematographer will move their crew like a tornado to get it all done, and you will have more options in editing.
2) The film crew chiefly wants the director to know stuff and make decisions. If you're nervous on set and feel like you're not sure of what you're doing, fake it. Make decisions. The confidence will come later.
3) If you're going to make mistakes, let them be your mistakes. You can at least learn from those.
