Jennifer L. Husbands was born and raised in the Philadelphia area and still roots for her hometown teams, especially the Eagles. After her parents separated when she was 9, she saw firsthand the vast difference in opportunities afforded to her peers in her mom’s neighborhood in Philadelphia and the kids in the suburbs where her she and her brother lived with her dad. This fueled her lifelong passion for improving urban public education. She attended undergrad at the University of Virginia, earned her Ph.D. from Stanford University, and moved to Chicago in 2008 to further her career. Jenn has held senior roles in philanthropy, at several education nonprofits, and at Chicago Public Schools. In 2024, she launched her consulting practice, Steward Education Advisors. Outside of work, you’ll find Jenn out listening to live music all around Chicago. She has been featured as a reader for CHIRP Radio’s First Time series and has appeared on a few podcasts, mostly talking about her favorite band, Wilco. She is a longtime Lincoln Square resident and a proud mom to a musical theatre-loving 13-year-old. She currently serves on the advisory boards of the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Chicago Public Education Foundation.
